Oral History of Pak Rashid: A Valuable Historical Documentation Process of Cikgu Rashid

SHAH ALAM - The Alumni Relations Centre (ARCUPM) in collaboration with the Sultan Abdul Samad Library, University Putra Malaysia (UPM), conducted an oral history interview session with Tuan Haji Mohamed Ismail, an alumnus of UPM, Class of 1967.

During the session, Tuan Haji Mohamed shared his memorable experiences as a student under the guidance of the late Pak Rashid, highlighting valuable lessons and timeless advice he had received while studying at the then College of Agriculture Malaya (KPM).

He recalled one of Pak Rashid’s most enduring messages to always be prepared in all aspects, whether in knowledge, self-discipline, appearance, or decision-making when facing challenges in life.

According to him, Pak Rashid also emphasized that discipline is the foundation of success, as it reflects a person’s readiness to face future challenges. He added that the simple act of walking briskly, as taught by Pak Rashid, symbolizes determination, energy, and a clear sense of purpose in achieving one’s goals.

Tuan Haji Mohamed also shared a meaningful reminder for UPM educators to always be present and engaged with their students throughout the learning process. He stressed that effective education is not only delivered through words but also through conduct, example, and character — values that the late Pak Rashid consistently embodied in nurturing his students, not only as learners but as individuals prepared for life’s realities.
